We've Moved the Shop

We have been in our new space since June. The shop has been really busy and doing well for the last couple of months and I haven't the time to update this blog. We are now located at 148 Townsend St. 3rd Fl. Between 2nd and 3rd. Right around the corner from SBC Park. The move was somewhat difficult but we now have twice the space. Couple of new gigs include working with
Solitary Arts and Equaldist, Two Birds Fly Surfboards, Dandylion Press
TEXT
Altered Attitude, Future Farmer Records to name a few.
I also got my letterpres set-up in the new space so been busy with that as well.
We're there 5 days a week, but at various times. My daughter is 2 now, talking
forming her own thoughts and doing well.

Art Piece

Here is that etching I had in the Amoeba Art Show. Which I ended up selling !!!
An artist proof from the series called Black Clouds. This etching is done in the Faux Mezzotint technique.
Which basically starts off as a black plate, after dusting rosin an fusing it in acid.
Then you would burnish out all your light tones. With very little line work. At times i not only used a burnisher, but coarse sandpaper as well. Printed with bone black on Rives BFK (100% cotton rag. I hinged the art piece with rice paper, framed and matted the picture myself. The frame I found on 8th Ave.

The perfect technique for what I was trying to achieve.
A dark and cloudy polluted landscape.
Inspired by German Expressionist work 1880-1933.
So in this piece i was going for that aesthetic: Dark gloomy impressions, but soft and subtle at times.

Printmaking is definitely one of my favorite medium in the arts, not only do you have to draw the image, but you have to craft and put some serious time and work into your plate. In this case it takes quite some time to complete.
With this process it can be very expressive. Maybe later I will incorporate some screen printing as well.

Amoeba Art SHow

Hello,

I have a piece in the Amoeba Art show this Friday. I've been doing signs, graphics for Amoeba
for 10 years now. It started with hand painted/ hand cut signs now I print them digitally for Amoeba. I also currently started printing some t-shirt projects for them. I started doing signs
for Tower back in the Golden Age. With a few months of High School left this was the perfect job back then. I Got to use paint brushes, airbrush, exacto knives, etc. and endless amounts of Golden Acrylics I ever needed and !! Cranking out signs 40 hours a week at Tower was not bad at all........
Then I ended up doing signs for Rasputin in Berkeley and now Amoeba.
Don't get me wrong I still like doing signs digitally, it's just faster now.

Busy Busy Busy

It' been a busy month , haven't had the time for new posts.
Arms all busted up, been printing so much I tore a muscle tissue in my left arm.
I have also been fortunate to take the space upstairs recently, so I decided to add a second dryer.
Currently we use 4/4, 6/6 and 4/1 manual presses. We also have a Nuarc 1200 watt light source and vacuum.
